October 2nd: Jim Marshall, author of "The American Tailwind" addressed the club about his inspirations for his book, including Warren Buffett and soldiers who were family members of the employees at his business, Spectrum Investments, which is located in Mequon.
October 9th: William Rice, Chief of the Saukville Fire Department, discussed the upcoming consolidation of the Saukville and Grafton Fire Departments.
The PW-S Rotary Holiday Party is taking place on Monday, December 2nd at Twisted Willow. Rotarians and a guest are invited to attend. Keep an eye out for sign-up and further details. PWHS's acapella group, "Limited Edition", will once again be performing.
INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITY:
In partnership with Elmbrook Rotary Club and Common Hope, through whom we sponsor a student in Guatemala, there is an international travel and service opportunity in Guatemala taking place February 15-22, 2025. Cost is $700 per attendee plus airfare. Ruth has participated on multiple trips in the past, which includes meeting our sponsored student. World Polio Day is October 24th. As you read previously, one of the main initiatives of Rotary International is eradicating Polio. Rotary is a founding partner in the End Polio Now Initiative. Polio remains in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Gaza. Rotary clubs around the world raise funds to support the Polio Plus fund, which is matched 2-to-1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Kevin Chandler, Director of Transmission Business Development with Invenergy, is a newly proposed member sponsored by Nate Wille. Kevin joined us a lunch meeting back in September. Any objections to Kevin's proposed membership should be sent to Gene Boyer no later than Wednesday, October 30th. Pending no objections, Kevin will be invited into membership.
